The Print Hall : A delightful surprise

125 ST GEORGES TCE, PERTH WA 6000

For Saturday's high tea we didn’t have to travel too far as we had chosen a local establishment, the Print hall in Brookfield Place, St Georges Terrace. You might not think of The Print Hall as a place for high tea; it's more known as a spot for after work drinks and dinner , but you would be wrong! Upon entering, the dining room feels like a serene oasis away from the street's hustle, elegantly adorned with cozy booths.

We were met and shown to our corner table by the delightful Francesca, her easy manner was both welcoming and efficient. She was one of only two very hard working waiters for the afternoon and at times we felt they could have used the help of an additional waiter.

While we waited for our tower to arrive, Francesca poured us the first of our champagnes, Laurent-Perrier La Cuvee for those wishing to know the full details.

The offering is for 90 minutes on the start of your first poured glass. We managed 3 each, not too bad for a Saturday afternoon, after all high tea is an elegant affair and we encourage things staying classy ;)

Our tower arrived with a quick delivery and a top up of our champagne glasses without either of us having to ask, which is always lovely. We didn’t receive an explanation of the individual items on the tower so consulted our menus to see what we would be eating. Everything sounded and looked sensational!  We're sure on a less busy day an explanation would have been given to us on placement of the tower.

The Savouries:

There were four in total, all tasty but the stand out for us was the free range egg & watercress sandwich, creamy soft egg surrounded by fresh wholemeal crust less bread. Mmmm Perfection !  A close second was the salmon vol-au-vents. This could be a surprise for some of you who know both Anna and myself, as we are not huge smoked salmon lovers. Shocking, I know! This salmon was very delicate in flavor, not overly fishy at all.

The Scones:

Now these scones had us confused and we spent some time googling American biscuit and Welsh cake recipes, as the scones are very low in height, you might even say they are the short people in the scone world. Not your traditional high-rise looking golden affair.

We concluded that these are a hybrid scone—a new entity in the scone realm. Welcome, little hybrid scone; you possess all the flavor of the larger, chunkier counterparts in the scone world, just with a more compact form.

The homemade Chantilly cream and jam were astonishing! We long to have them again!

They complemented both the Belgian chocolate and the plain (hybrid) scones flawlessly.

The sweets:

As usual, by this stage, we were struggling to even start on the sweets; however, we endeavored to soldier on. Not helped by the fact that we were now on our third glass of champagne each. The sweets consisted of three individuals, all so pretty and delicate to look upon. The Passione was a dainty little mouthful, full of zing! So tangy, our taste buds went into overdrive.  The strawberry tart and the Choux bun delivered exactly what you expected from their looks.

Would we recommend the Print Hall ?  Yes ,100% we would! At times she could be a little rowdy (arrival of a hens party :/ ) however over all she presented a calm, stylish spot to settle into for a few hours of very pleasant indulgence.
